Engagement in word and prayer is the basis of growth for every believer, but alot of Christians due to their laziness have only paid attention to the ones they find easy to do. What they don't know is that one complements the other and just majoring on one makes you an incomplete  and immature believers.

 I will give the effect of so many things in this post, please pay close attention as you read.

I have seen guys that make statements like  "I am not the praying type" or stuffs like I'm not the studying I learn by seeing visions, God use to teach me.
The bible says in Galatians 1:8 (But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed).

 No matter what you see or vision you had if it has not prove in scriptures then it is wrong. 

THE BALANCE OF PRAYER: 

some guys pray alot and neglect the place of the word because they believe that it's hard to sit down and read but they prefer prayer. One of the problem such person will have is that 
1. You will always pray wrong prayers and out of God's will, because you don't read the bible
2. You can become angry and easily offended because you have not paid attention to the word
3. You will always walk in error because there's no word to guide you
4. You will have a very low knowledge about God
5. You can be easily manipulated and tempted, because you can only  conquer temptation with the word and not with prayers.
6. You will get frustrated because many things are not working, because the key to many things working is in the word.
Note: The devil is scared about your knowledge of God's word applied in prayers, Satan came after Jesus had fasted and prayed but Jesus conquered Satan because he knows the word.

THE BALANCE OF THE WORD: 

There are guys also who has made the bible a literature book and they can read anything and anythere. They are also good with quoting the scriptures with so much simplicity but you will notice that 

1. There's nothing they know in the word  working in their life, because they don't pray, all the promises of God in the word are birth in prayers 

2. They are always ready to argue, because they are trying to show what they know and not what they have become by what they know.

The devil is not scared of a man who knows the word by heart, he is scared of a man who has conformed to the knowledge he has concerning the word by prayer. That's why we all know he has been given a name greater than every other name, that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow and a tongues confess Jesus the lord.  But not all of us can produce result with that name. It's not really by knowing but by becoming

3. They are always hard to correct, what they see is what they believe because they don't pray and ask the holyspirit for the light of the word.

4. They are mostly custodians of wrong doctrines.

THE BALANCE OF LISTENING TO SERMONS :

 while some prays alone and some read the Bible alone, there are so many others who finds pleasure or desires growth by just listening to teachings of other minister of God. These people don't confirm the ministers teaching In scriptures. They take it Hook line and sinker.
One thing is that no matter how respected a minister of God or powerful, their word is not a final say, the word of God in scriptures has to validate every teaching someone else preaches. One of the problem people like this have is that

1. They are quick to fall into errors because they don't believe a teacher of God's word can make mistakes

2. They are always eloquent when it comes to argument about teachings because they are always very exact in quoting the ministers they have listened to.

3. They don't always have a basis in God's word they always refer to what a man of God says

4. They are always confused because they listen to many people just to gain knowledge but they find out that the teachers they listen to many times don't agree on same issue, this now brings confusion. So, instead of searching the word for answers, they wont, they follow the most respected minister.


In conclusion:

There is nothing a man can do to grow better spiritually, if the place of the word and prayer is weak, the growth of the person will be weak also.
