James 1:21-25  Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

What's the soul?

According to Oxford dictionary, the soul is the spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal regarded as a immortal.

The soul of a man can be called the hidden Man or the inner man, the soul is the real man while the body is just a house for the soul, that is why the soul determines the activity carried out in the body. 

The soul consist of the mind, will and emotions of a man

The mind brings a man to the point of awareness, consciousness, and thought.

 Will is the quality of been ready or eager or prepared to do something.

Emotion is a strong feeling deriving from one circumstances, mood or relationship with others.

A man is composed of three entity - the spirit, the soul and the body. The spirit is used to relate to the spiritual realm,  soul with the emotional and intellectual realm and the body with the physical realm but our main discuss is the soul. The soul controls the activity that will dominate the life of a man. The difference between an obedient and a disobedient person's is the soul. the spirit has its own law which is spiritual and the body has its own law which is carnal.  The soul determines if the body will be taught to obey the laws of the spirit or to silence the spirit and engage the Carnal law. At salvation a man's spirit is recreated but a conscious walk with God after salvation helps to renew the soul by paying attention to the word and all it says.  When the believer neglect doing something about his own soul, he will give the enemy access to his life. Feeding on God's word saves and delivers ones soul which is one of the greatest defences against Satan. If your soul is filled with sinful contents, it will be easy to obey the law of sin, even while you are saved but accepting the engrafted word saves the soul of a man (James 1:21)

Addictions and several sin in the life of a man is as result of not renewing the mind, most times it is not a demon but consistent act of sin invites the presence of a spirit, that's how addiction starts. When one's soul is clouded with lust, sin and addiction it makes a person hard from receiving the promises of God because you will always think you're not worth it even when God has promised you, the devil also fights the word life of a man whose soul is corrupt because he knows that is the only what can save that man. God won't come down to remove certain things from our lives but a determination to get them out will make us focus on the word which can save our soul, Christians who have failed to renew their mind forfeits the privilege to enter into all that belongs to them in Christ while they are here on earth.

The problem in the life of a believer is not the sin, it is the soul that harbours it, fighting the sin can't stop the problem but renewing the dwelling place which is the soul,  makes it uncomfortable for sin to stay.  Even a conscious walk with God helps the soul.

Weekly Confession

This week:

I keep my heart with all dilligence

I feed my soul with God's word

I refuse to obey the law of sin

Carnality has no place in me

I am not caught up doing things I don't want to do

My soul is saved, I depend on the spirit, I'm not weak in Jesus name. Amen
