IS DANCING IN CHURCH WRONG OR RIGHT

The answer to this question can be a YES or NO, the explanation below will decide.

Dancing in church is part of the church administration, the expression of gratitude to God, can lead to dancing.

Scriptures should always answer scripture..No human's philosophy or intellect can sufficiently give a strong position to scriptures, without scriptural intelligence.

So to the question; Is dancing in church scriptural?

There's no need trying to defend the scripture, or speak against it, the scripture can self-defend itself. It's important to note that certain word usage in scriptures and the word usage now has quite some differences.

The church for instance, has a different contextual usage in our world now...

what's the meaning of the word CHURCH?

The word CHURCH was never mentioned in the old testament scriptures..
But it has a 114 mention in the new testament..
So it is important by the rule of first mention to know how that word was first used...

Matthew 16:18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my CHURCH ; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Church = ekklēsia
That greek word is a compound greek word..
Ekk and kaleo ( to call out from a location)

Ekklēsia means a people called out..
obviously out of somewhere to a place.

The word CHURCH here as Jesus had said wasn't a structural building, nor a denomination..  Rather the body of believers called out of darkness into the kingdom of God's dear son.

The usage of this word ekklēsia as representing the body of believers is the largest usage in scriptures.

There's another usage in Corinthians that meant "a gathering"
So basically the church in scriptures meant a gathering of believers.

Acts 2:46-47
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

This was the gathering of believers..
Now with an increase in figures there was need for some administrative set-up in the church..
A time came they needed welfare department

Acts 6:1-3
And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

Now In the church now we have
  • Choir
  • Ushers/protocols
  • Media etc
For the sake of administration, it is complete folly and ignorance to say the above are unscriptural..

The things that pertains to the word and prayer SHOULD NOT BE MODIFIED but when it concerns administration it is within the leaders discretion to correct that.

So where does DANCING falls in this category..
Let's check in scriptures what dance means and why do people dance..

 orcheomai
Pronunciation: or-kheh'-om-ahee
Definition: Middle voice fromόρχος orchos (a row or ring); to dance (from the ranklike or regular motion): - dance.

There is no commandment or ordinance that mandates dancing or disannuls dance
It's a deliberate thing..
People danced in scriptures..

The Apostles didn't tho, because there was no administrative structure for that.
The practice of the new testament church is strictly God's word and prayer.
 I mean strictly!!!!

Buh if there's an administrative whatever in your church that accommodates DANCING without affecting the word and prayer..

It's all Good!
It is IGNORANCE to say that DANCING/DANCE is unscriptural!

There are other acceptable things practiced today amidst believers
  • Naming ceremony
  • Wedding ceremony
Majoring on the minor, and minoring on the major will result in people saying that Dance is unscriptural..

Gbola Davids
God has blessed you.
