This topic has caused a lot of argument between brethren in the body of Christ. Reason been that there are some people who attends church but still find pleasure in so many things that contradict God's word.
They grew up in the church, so they go to church. In a bid to separate this unbelieving church-goers from the devoted believers in church, You call them Christians and the devoted ones believers.
It is wrong!! Because a man puts on a military uniform is not enough to make him a militant. There is an experience he has to pass through that will qualify him to be one of them.
Let us correct this error, so it won't keep spreading.
Who is a believer?
A believer is one who has heard the word of truth, that is the gospel of salvation and has believed.
Hence, the believer is one who has been saved and has escaped condemnation. (Mark16:16) (Act 16:30&31). A believer has escaped the wrath to come because he has believed in the Lord Jesus.
Who is a Christian?
The word Christian was first used for the disciples in Antioch (Acts 11:26). Reason been that they saw them as people who follow the manner of Christ in all the things they do. Their lifestyle is Christ like.
Christianity is the earthly reflection of Christ to to the world, it is not just a religion, he is a witness and a follower of our Lord Jesus.
The disciples were called Christian not because they go to church daily, but because they followed Christ in all things.
There is no other name for an ordinary church-goer than what it is..
A church goer who is not saved is not a disciple nor a follower of Christ. A church goer is not a believer, hence a church goer is not a Christian. There is no such thing as Christian by religion or Christian by birth. It's either you're A Believer or an unbeliever.
An unbeliever can attend church meetings just to satisfy the guilt of religion. That practice does not make him a Christian, he becomes a christian by becoming a follower of Christ, and before he can be a follower, he has to believe that makes him a believer.
The title 'Christian' is not earned by belonging to a religious group, it's earned by cultivating and following the pattern of a life (Jesus's life).
Note: Do not be deceived that it is only people who don't go to church that are called unbelievers.
Men of repute in your 'church' who have not received the gospel are unbelievers hiding under the canopy of church..
The church is not the building, the church is the people. This set of people are not part of the church, because the church means the called out ones.
You can be a believer only you know. Nobody knows about it, because you did it in your heart, but when you become a Christian it is no longer you who will confirm it that you have received Christ life. People will confirm for you.
<Next time always know that you're first a believer then a Christian.
Let's stop calling the church going unbelievers Christian, it doesn't fit them.
A Christian is a believer, an unsaved church goer is not a Christian. He is an unbeliever attending church services.
