Quench not the spirit

When I was much younger in the faith, series of questions always run through my mind anytime I see believers who claim to love God and claim to have the Holy ghost inside of them not looking like it.   

I see believers who say they are born again and speak in tongue, still do things unbelievers do.  

Is it true that these guys are saved? 

Are they lying about praying in tongues? 

Do they really have the holyspirit?

When a man get saved (born again) he is a new creature. It is a spiritual experience.

 Our hair does not change in colour, neither does our complexion. So our habit and character is there also.

 But we are better of now because by the help of the holyghost which we now have, those things can stop.

It is wrong to accuse people who have bad character saying they pray in tongues. It is not tongues that change men. 

When you buy a new phone, it takes a while before you are used to all it's features. Infact you can't operate some new device without the manual. 

A new convert grows daily by looking into the manual which is the Bible and paying attention to God's leading. 

Let's check the Bible

1 Thessalonians 5:18  In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. [19]Quench not the Spirit.

The Greek meaning for the word quench is to put out/extinguish 

(Note: Greek words are not used to interpret scriptures, they are used to understand the meaning of a word )

So, talking about quenching the holyghost would mean that a man put out or extinguishes or made the holyghost in them become less active.

 For example: you have a friend who used to listen to you whenever you give him an Instruction. 

The day you give your friend another instructions and he shouted at you and insulted you, or refuses to listen to you again.  You will lose interest in giving him instruction, because you know he won't answer you.

That is exactly how it is with the holyghost. He always bring things to our remembrance but a lot times we have ignored him. 

The holyspirit is not the spirit that forces men. Only evil spirits force people to do things.

So if you reject him too many times, you're gradually reducing his effectiveness in you.

This can result in lukewarmness,laxity and lack of passion for spiritual things, loss of fervency, lack of prayer and study life, heeding to the devil suggestions.

 When the holyspirit is quenched, it is easy to sin and not be remorseful because you have silenced the convicting spirit.

Loss of interest in things of the spirit is the first sign that a man has quenched the activity of the  holyspirit.
