Praying in tongues ( reasons why we pray in tongues)

I have seen differs kinds of people who come to me wanting to get baptized in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues.

 There were times after teaching and praying, some of them don't end up praying in tongues. So the holyghost asked me a question. I asked the lady the same question.

 Why do you want to pray in tongues? 

 The lady replied and said "I don't know". I was shocked and we wondered how I had laboured in vain. 

I was expecting the holyghost to tell me that she can now pray in tongues but she have refused to pray. But instead I got a question. 

This happens with some people who doesn't pray instantly in tongues, the holyghost will tell me they can now pray in tongues. So I'll just have to encourage them and build their faith with the word and some of them get back home and prayed in tongues.

Reasons why we pray in ( Or should pray in) tongues.

1. Praying in tongues helps to build up yourself.

 Jude 1:20, But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

A lot of people use this verse to say that you pray to build up faith. That's wrong, what this verse is saying is that you build up yourself praying in the holyghost.

What does it mean to build up oneself? 

God the Holy Spirit has possessed the Spirit of every believer. There is an ability expected of everyone who has the spirit within. 

Christ has a standard and every believer is to meet the standard that we have learned in the faith, So this is what happened when we pray in tongues. We're built to get better in the faith.

2. Praying in tongues helps you to access mysteries in the spirit

1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

Praying in tongues helps you to communicate directly with God, without anyone knowing what you're saying.

 You can express your desires to God praying in the holyghost,(praying in tongues).

3. Praying in tongues brings spiritual edification

1 Corinthians 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

Edification is the improvement that happens intellectually or morally. It brings increase in strength and understanding

4. Praying in tongues helps you to have a deeper fellowship with the holyghost and to come under his influence

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

5. Praying in tongues gives you boldness ( Acts 4:31)

You will see that anytime the apostles are threatened or facing persecution on account of the word, what they result to is prayer. Just to build their confidence and to become bold.

6. Praying in tongues is spirit intercession

1 Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

There are cases where many people complain of not knowing what to pray about.

 Many times we're filled with strange burdens we have no idea what it means. The best thing to do is pray in tongues. The holyghost knows how to interceed for you, even when you don't know what to say.
